Common Auto Repair Questions Answered

Most people have no idea how to fix their own car or truck. You should be as well-informed as possible so that you know about car repair. Here are some common auto repair questions answered.

Question: What do I do if my engine temperature gauge starts to rise when I am in traffic?

Answer: The first thing you want to do is step on the gas just a bit so some of the heat from the engine can let out. In order to get some of the heat out of the engine, turn the car heater on. If the gauge is in the danger zone, you will have to pull over and let the car cool down. If this happens, the issue could be a number of things like low engine coolant, clogged radiator or radiator fan that isn't working.

Question: How do I clean the battery terminals?

Answer: It is important to note that batteries contain a potent acid so you do need to be careful. To clean the terminals, make a paste of three parts of baking soda with one part of water. This paste will work well in neutralizing corrosion. After you reconnect the terminals, put some petroleum jelly on the clamps to prevent corrosion in the future.

Question: How do I know if I have a turn signal that is burnt out?

Answer: If you notice that one of your turn signals blinks too fast or that one is on but does not blink, these are signs you have a signal that is burnt out.

Question: How long do wiper blades last?

Answer: The amount of time that wipers will last will depend on where you live. The reason for this is that the heat and humidity really take a toll on your windshield wipers. If you live in an area that is hot, you will need to replace your wipers more often. Also, if you live in an area that rains a lot and you use the wipers often, you will need to replace them often. The basic rule of thumb is that if you notice your windshield wipers start to smear when it snows or rains or they obstruct your view when they are on, it is time to replace them.
