How to Keep Toy Clutter Under Control
Â
Now that Christmas is over and we are in the New Year, it's time to take control of that nasty clutter that might be overtaking your home, specifically toy clutter. With kids come clutter but there are ways to keep it under control. It works in my home, but I learned I have to be consistent or it's easy to take a step backwards. Here are two methods that I currently use:
1. 10 Second Tidy - Every time a child enters a room call out "10 second tidy." During this time children gather anything that doesn't belong on the floor, etc. After the 10 seconds is up,have them put everything back in their proper place.
2.Toys=Minutes - This method is my final approach when toys aren't put back into the proper places after the 10 second tidy. It's inevitable at times that kids will just throw things under the bed, in the closet, in corners, etc. When this happens, I count each toy as a minute taken off oft heir screen time such as DS, Kindle, Computer, etc. You can use this method for whichever you choose, but screen time seems to work in our house.Â
Since using these methods, I can honestly say that our house has been on the tidier side of things and for more than a couple days in a row. There will be days when we get behind because of busy schedules, sickness, etc., but it's always easy to get right back on track.
